This issue was brought up several years ago. It is nothing new, it is simply the latest "current thing" to distract and obscure. TikTok has always been a CCP tool to gather data on the west and its gullible sheep.
I pray that someday, soon, western societies wake up and realize that their lives of leisure and convenience have become the lever used against them.
Government pontifications wouldn't be given the weight so many attribute to them, if people embraced their responsibilities of being accountable for their actions, and took back their right to personal choice.
Probably, but I think that would not be the proximate cause. The accountability & autonomy would have other complements, such as maintenance of proper boundaries, including insistence on the rule of law.
You do realize the supreme court court is as dirty as the company owners. They do not give you the “ people’s want they give you the politicians wants. Court or not it’s dirty all the way to the top.
I disagree with respect to the courts. It would be the correct way to go about this, regardless, plus courts have a “procedural morality,” as Lon Fuller called it, which discourages corruption.

I think you may be forgetting that fascists hate fascists, if they step on each other's territory. I mean, it is not as if the government does not want to control USA platforms, but China trying to control platforms -- whodda heard of it? I've been hearing for quite some time now that the metadata of TikTok is spying on Americans, and yet, Americans seem fine with the larger platforms of the USA spying on the metadata of Americans. So, what difference does it make if China knows my (some) privacy issues (like what I bought ten days ago) or if I am in Pennsylvania or Florida. As one of my friends put it (paraphrasing): As long as it is metadata and that is already being done and the major US platforms are doing it, which difference does it make if China is doing it now, too? I can't say that I like it -- I don't want everyone knowing what I bought or where I am at any given time, but why focus only on a Chinese company and not all of them?
Yeah, and the worst of it is the third-party doctrine, which is still giving the US government warrantless access to that same metadata. So how much better are we, really? The whole thing is a farce, and as I sit here listening to fireworks typing this, I am convinced our country’s Founders are spinning in their graves.
Sure, the USA is not what it used to be, and it is getting more and more difficult to keep freedom in mind and that the USA was founded on freedom each and every Independence Day.

(I have a link to my solution to that particular problem, in my profile bio on Parler.)
